Rhythmic Structures in Paper – Between Construction and Dissolution
Micaela Zellhofer explores paper as a spatial and structural medium. Her works emerge through a continuous process of construction and deconstruction: geometries are created, disassembled, cut, layered, and reassembled. The work is characterized by an experimental approach in which line drawing, flat color application, digital printing, three-dimensional cut works, and textile threads as spatial extensions of the line are combined in varying ways.
In terms of content, the works examine geometric systems and negotiate the interplay between built and natural environments. Textures and geometries of both systems overlap, referencing processes such as erosion, corrosion, aging, and transformation. Furthermore, light and shadow act as form-giving elements, shifting existing orders. The works raise questions about materiality, its authenticity and permanence, and the extent of architectural order in the face of natural dynamics.
Micaela lives and works in Wiesbaden and Mainz. She studied architecture at the Technical University of Darmstadt. Her engagement with architectural questions informs her artistic practice, as does her current academic work in the field of communication design at Mainz University of Applied Sciences.
